How are minorities represented in movies; with specific reference to ‘Boyz n the Hood’ and ‘Freedom Writers’

My area of study is race in Hollywood movies and my investigation will focus on racial minorities being stereotyped and how those stereotypes affect prejudices in reality. In my opinion the media influences the general publics thoughts and opinions, therefore the way minorities are portrayed in these movies and the roles they are able to get are restricting and create prejudice. From the beginning of Hollywood minorities have been discriminated against to the point of black people not even playing the roles of black people but white people in ‘Blackface’ doing it instead, ‘By refusing to hire black actors to portray black characters, demeaning stereotypes were being created as blacks were presented in an unfavorable light.’
